MDAC 2.7

If you are running 95 or 98, you should ensure that the respective version of DCOM is installed in your machine and then run the installation for MDAC 2.7, which is outlined in the following section(s)

Installing DCOM 95/98

If you are running Windows 95/98 you should ensure that you are running DCOM.  DCOM stands for Distributed Component Object Model and is a service that is installed by Office 97, Office 2000, IE 4.0 or other programs.  If you do not think you have DCOM installed, simply navigate to the DCOM directory on the CD and double click the DCOM95.EXE file.  This will cause DCOM to install.  If your computer has a current version of DCOM, the setup program will inform you of this and then stop processing, so rest assured that attempting to install DCOM can in no way invalidate a newer version of DCOM on your system.  If you do not have DCOM, the setup program will ask if you want to install DCOM, click Yes and then installation will continue by asking you to submit to the standard Microsoft End User License Agreement.  Click Yes to assent to the agreement. After the installation is complete, you will be asked to reboot your machine to make DCOM take effect.

Installing MDAC 2.7

MDAC 2.7 stands for Microsoft Data Access Components, version 2.7.  This set of programs includes all of the ODBC and ISAM drivers needed for SQLThing to function.  To install MDAC, simply navigate to the MDAC directory on the CD and double click the MDAC_TYP.EXE file.  MDAC setup will then start.  The MDAC setup program will first examine your machine to ensure that you do not have a newer version of MDAC already installed.  If version 2.7 or newer MDAC is installed on your machine, MDAC setup will inform you of this and stop executing.  If MDAC needs to be installed, MDAC will prompt you for assent to the standard Microsoft End User License agreement.  Check the box affirming the agreement and then click Next to proceed. MDAC setup will ask you if you want to proceed, click Next and the installation will begin.  After MDAC is installed on your machine, the system will restart and you may proceed to installation of an ODBC driver.
